BC Green Party
Your Vision for Arts + Culture
Will you advocate for an increased investment to the BC Arts Council and to maintain or increase the current funding level for arts, culture and heritage in your community?
Will you take an active role on behalf of your community to lobby senior levels of government to increase levels of investment to the BC Arts Council?
Yes of course, i have been involved arts and culture in BC since 1978 when i formed the band DOA - Part of my focus would be to highlight and promote arts and culture in BC We have a unique situation here , where we have tons of home grown talent and a huge amount of artists from across Canada have moved here to pursue their craft. It's time we turned this talent into a "growth" industry that would help artists and help make BC a cultural "Mecca"
If you are in favour of increased investment in arts, culture, and heritage for our province and committed to lobbying senior levels of government for increases to the BC Arts Council, would you require additional advocacy support from the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture? If so, how can we help?
Yes i am < you can help by letting people know about my campaign in Burnaby-Lougheed- If elected this would likely be the first time we have ever had "one of our own" in government - or at least having a voice in BC legislature votejoekeithley.com
In your view, how can our provincial government maintain or grow the cultural sector across British Columbia?
The first thing to do is for the government to lose it's attitude that arts and culture is a secondary part of our society. It is a vibrant part of our society that has the unique ability to bring people together
Cultural + Creative Spaces
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural and creative spaces for artists and arts organizations in British Columbia? If so, how?
Well there are many buildings that are provincially owned that could be used in multi lateral ways
How will you improve cultural tourism in your community? How do you propose to attract and retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
Streamline archaic regulations that deal with public performances - That way we could set up more outlets for artistic endeavors. i would also look at the way Austin Texas has turned itself into a great cultural mecca
What do you feel to be the single most important issue currently relating to arts, culture and heritage in British Columbia, and what action will you take to address it?
I have detailed these above- Streamline regulations , promote arts and culture and one thing i have not mentioned , put a lot more funding into arts and culture in our public school system
How do you personally engage in the creative and cultural life of your community, and more broadly, the province? (e.g. committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
Yes . i play in a band that has sold a milion albums , run a record company, i have been a talk show host and an actor
