Your Vision for Arts + Culture

Will you advocate for an increased investment to the BC Arts Council and to maintain or increase the current funding level for arts, culture and heritage in your community?

Will you take an active role on behalf of your community to lobby senior levels of government to increase levels of investment to the BC Arts Council?

If you are in favour of increased investment in arts, culture, and heritage for our province and committed to lobbying senior levels of government for increases to the BC Arts Council, would you require additional advocacy support from the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture? If so, how can we help?

Speaking as a representative of my community and not on behalf of the BC Greens, I would begin by bringing as many interested stakeholders together to see how we could best collaborate to lobby the federal government.

Cultural Growth

In your view, how can our provincial government maintain or grow the cultural sector across British Columbia?

The BC Greens support arts and culture as the underpinning of a vibrant creative economy in BC. I would humbly suggest that the arts and culture community has incredibly well thought out ideas on how the provincial government could accomplish this task and so, I'd start by consulting the sector. In working together, we will go farther. Second, as an educator, I believe we must also invest in arts and culture in our public school system.

Cultural + Creative Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural and creative spaces for artists and arts organizations in British Columbia? If so, how?

A great question. Use of space is an affordability and an environmental issue. There are likely several opportunities out there, and I am open to hearing them, but one idea I think worth pursuing, is a joint use agreement with municipal and school district spaces. After hour use of space for performance and creative space could be accommodate. In return, the artist (s) could offer their expertise to the school or city in a way that it was mutually beneficial.

Cultural Tourism

How will you improve cultural tourism in your community? How do you propose to attract and retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

1. To improve cultural tourism at a local level, I would advocate for grants to target cultural tourism with the understanding that non-profit and for profit can find ways to collaboratively promote one another and the arts and culture at the same time.

2. To attract and retain, we need to build a strong arts and culture community. We can do that by working with the City and stakeholders to identify the need and find solutions. I attend

How do you personally engage in the creative and cultural life of your community, and more broadly, the province? (e.g. committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

I attend local productions and events both professional as well as at the high school.
