Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

I don't know the current funding, but i would advocate for additional funding to protect heritage values in Revelstoke.

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

Yes. For 3 years I was the Cultural Resource Management Officer for Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks. Cultural/Heritage values are important to me and the community.

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

Yes. I would advocate for staffing and funding to make sure that the Arts don't have to depend on parent fund-raising all the time.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

This community is constantly moving forward with new Arts ideas and I have been an active participant for years.

Cultural Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?

Yes. I will make sure that funding is continued for spaces in Revelstoke for the Arts, like the Performing Arts Centre and the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre.

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

Revelstoke's Heritage character draws tourists and needs to be further protected. To help with that, I have been on the City of Revelstoke Heritage Commission for several years.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

I would work with groups like Parks Canada's, Art in the Park to draw artists to the area.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

Most important issue in Revelstoke is the need for buy-in from developers to maintain our Cultural and heritage values.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

I am on the City Heritage Commission and I volunteer at the Performing Arts Centre as an usher on performance nights. I am active with the fund raising efforts for the RSS band.
