Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

I see the Arts acquires 11 million in grants throughout the year. I do know my stance on City Hall and the ideas I put forth are for creating business and capital for City Hall to re-invest in more community orientated events. In other words, I want to create more local community based festivals in the city, opening the door to bands, art sellers, local shop sellers, culinary arts open kitchens and more activities for the local community at these events. When you allow the Artist to come out and show themselves to the neighborhood, we can all benefit from this. The city will create revenue to re-invest in more festivals, the locals will all benefit economically from such events and the neighbours will meet each other for a better community. We need more venues as well for artists to display their art, and this funding requirement will be included in a plan from new monies coming in at City Hall. The investment is giving back to the community not just through dollars in grants, however, working with grant benefactors can help increase a New Arts coffer for future projects.

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

I will definitely champion the growth of Arts. I grew up with Artists and the struggles they face, we need to put a bigger face on the Arts community to drive the economic engine of the industry. We can only celebrate so much but we can definitely offer better celebration techniques to increase the revenues and help the Arts get more attention and be more self-sufficient.

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

We definitely need to fund more Arts in the education system, too often Arts are the first thing to get the cuts, when in fact the Arts make people happier, make it easier for them to feel good and help them get through times of low. I will commit to investing in the education system to make Arts a viable livelihood for those who may want to pursue it as a lifestyle. If we increase their ability to earn a living off the Arts, they will be able to focus on it and flourish in this city. So it is important children and adults have Arts training all the time. No cuts to Arts.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

I will open the door for local community festivals. We need better recognition of the Canadian Artist so creating new advertising campaigns for the Arts maybe a great way to help people know who is out there. We want to inspire kids to be Artist and show them it is a viable option for a career. We help the Artists and they can focus on their talents in safety and comfort.

Cultural Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?

I would definitely do so. I want to create a new area, possible south Marine Drive as an area where new culture venues can be built to house and support the Artist of Vancouver. All types of Arts of course. I think creating a new area for bands, Artists etc is a must and I will do what I can to help create a new area for the Arts along side the other venues we have currently.

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

I am looking to increase the Arts visibility marker on the city, including commissioning more murals throughout Vancouver. Instead of seeing concrete, we will see Paintings and other Arts. Maybe creating areas where Art is displayed to the in Public on the outside walls, where tourists will see more information and finally to create an Artist App, once again bringing technology to the forefront of improvements to our city.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

We will embrace technology achievements, (aka App) to promote and help create a great new Art culture in Vancouver. Similar to when you go into a museum and listen on your phone what that display is about, we will create a great App that will introduce Vancouver Art to the world.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

The lack of Arts perception in this city on a technology level, the lack of venues, the lack of Festivals. I will work on getting these issues addressed and improved upon to put Vancouver Artist on the world map.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

I have acted in Short Films and attend the premieres, I enjoy plays and music and have gone out to local venues to be apart of up and coming artists.

Additional Information

If you'd like to provide voters with additional information about your stance on arts, culture, and heritage issues in your community, please use the space below.

I want to make Vancouver a Fun City and open the doors for Artists to make a living and help schools keep Arts on the platform of class options. I am sure I can help Arts become a bigger business in the city and help make it apart of my legacy as a Councillor to champion for the Arts.
