Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

Yes. Possibly, also look at reallocation of funds to better meet the needs.

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

Yes. For various reasons, the value of arts and culture to people and society at large outlines the existing evidence on the impact of arts and culture on our economy, health and well being, as a society.

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

I believe this is important. I work with the local Arts/Cultural Centre in providing free arts experience and education for children and youth at risk with my work as Executive Director of a non profit. I also come from a musical family.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

The arts make neighborhoods attractive places to live, work and play. The arts help to revitalize areas of concern, such as Chilliwack's downtown and strengthen both commercial and residential housing markets. Along with a community’s physical landmarks, its cultural landmarks, traditions and character are part of its magnetism. The arts enhance property values. The arts create employment and the arts attract tourism revenue.,)

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

Civic per capita funding is very low. We have lower support for arts and cultural tourism than typical funding of other municipalities. Re-look at how we can fund and allocate funding to meet the needs.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

By working collaboratively with arts groups and individuals to ensure strong support for the arts in Chilliwack.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

The lack of funding to arts groups that are struggling to make it. The Cultural Centre, Libraries and Museum are funded but the rest of the arts community are excluded we need to ensure that they are included.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

Attend shows, events and provide opportunities to children and youth to participate in our local arts and culture who would not be able to due to poverty or lack of family resource.

Additional Information

If you'd like to provide voters with additional information about your stance on arts, culture, and heritage issues in your community, please use the space below.

I believe children should have the opportunity to participate in the arts as part of our shared culture and work towards that in our community. I believe we need to support our arts, culture and heritage as part of a strategy for social and economic health of our community.
