Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
Arts funding is on the rise but the needs are still being under funded. I am committed to continuing to advocate for increased arts and cultural investment long term.
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
Yes. As a performing artist, I know first hand the challenges artists face as well as the profound impact we have on community. It is essential that we make arts, culture, and heritage a priority within all municipalities.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
Yes, period. Further school funding and continue to develop in-school programs that nurture arts development in our kids (the future).
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
Partnering with our indigenous people and integrating systems of support (i.e. Funding and programming) to further the dialogue and continue to keep these themes front of mind when addressing municipal affairs.
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
Yes, it is essential to have accessible and affordable cultural spaces available. This must be achieved through partnering with existing arts organizations, lobbying local (and provincial) government, and taking a stand for the importance of artistic sustainability and development.
