Funding

Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

Yes.

Advocacy

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

Yes. Without the arts students will have nothing to read or write about.

Education

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

Yes. Students who may not be able to express themselves through words may be able to communicate beautifully through drawing, painting, sculpture, song, dance or any way they choose to express themselves.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

Expand the arts in schools through increase funding and community involvement.

Cultural Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?

Yes. Schools have and will continue to share space and resources with the arts community.

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

Programs such as Super Hosts and other tourist industry training programs can train and enlighten students and their parents of the value of tourism to our community. Ensuring cultural tourism is offered in schools in one way to help this community.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

Through tourism based courses in schools, students can learn the value of shopping locally and patronizing the arts whenever they can. And sometimes it can be the small things: Signing guest books or evaluations at events and galleries. Many get funding by the number of signatures they receive.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

Money. Pressure governments to ensure everyone and every corporation pays their fair share.

Participation

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

Local museums, art galleries and historic sites are the first places I go when I travel. Through social media, I try to raise awareness of current affairs, politics, health, finance and the arts.
