Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
My Area supplies Grants-in-Aid to the he local Campbell River Art Gallery.
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
Yes, I encourage the growth of art and have supported other local artists over the years, such as the Driftwood Carving whenever they have asked for assistane.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
Through our Grants programme.
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
I am in a rural Area and we do not have the population nor the tax base for paying for buildings, but my Area consistently supports the Gallery on Campbell River.
How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?
Allow the artists and artisans in my Area to have home—based businesses in their homes.
How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
By keeping Art encouragement in our Area zoning/Official Community Plans and by continuing to provide Grants.
What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?
I think that we are living in a resource based area and people need more exposure to art here generally to learn more about it! It always surprises me how much talent goes buried for many years from very talented artists because they had never had previous exposure and didn’t know how talented they were! I believe that more emphasis needs to be placed upon the Education system to find these talents and encourage them at a younger age.
How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
Wh enever possible, I attend arts and cultural events.

I lived in Europe for nearly eight years and was an arts “junkie” going to all major galleries around Europe, attending theatre and ballets and all sorts of artistic venues. My home was in London, England when I worked over there, so weekends were often spent in museums and art galleries.
