Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
Arts, culture and heritage are the heart of a community. As an artist and lover of arts, I most definitely l would love to see it thrive and grow in my community. It brings richness and sweetness to our lives, and I feel it is necessary for our wholeness. I believe that children exposed to art and culture and who have the opportunity to be part of it will benefit in so many ways in their lives. I would definitely advocate for arts, culture and heritage.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
Yes, I agree with this. Creating opportunities for experiencing and participating in arts within the education system and community art projects would help facilitate this.
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
Continued funding to the Arts and the people who bring it to our community. Collaborating with other communities for shared art experiences. Encouraging ideas and supporting them through grants.
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
I would like to see an art / creative space for children (and adults) to participate in the arts anytime with no financial barriers.
How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?
To let those going thru keep on doing that. We have a wonderful cultural tourism here and I'm open to more.
How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
Creating spaces and opportunities for more at and culture to blossom and thrive.
What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?
I honestly don't know, but supporting opportunities for artists to come together and have their work seen, appreciated and visible in our community is important.
How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
I attend many at and cultural events in our community. With two little ones I haven't had a lot of free time to be involved on committees. I squeeze time in to create my own art. I participate in art events whenever possible.
