Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
In 2018 we invested $22.7 million into a "Recreation and Culture" category. Recreation and Culture are quite different, I would see that we break these into separate categories on our tax breakdown information for the public, and seek opportunities to further invest into our arts and cultural community. We need to continue on the path of growth in Prince George, and that includes aiding in the funding towards growth in our Arts Community.
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
Of course. This is an area I already proudly participate in and champion on a community level. When I am elected, this will remain a priority to me, and I will bring the voice of the community to our Council table.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
I believe this is more directed to our counterparts who are running for School Board Trustee positions. However, when elected, it is my goal to have strong working relationships with our School Board Trustee's, to see that the vision of our education in Prince George aligns with the vision of our community.
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
We need to open the lines of communication better with the arts community, and create a partnership in our strategic planning. Working together to fulfill the changing needs surrounding arts, culture, and heritage in our community, and finding a solution to meeting them with municipal support.
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
Yes. I believe a great first step here will be working with the Community Arts Council on their relocation to a downtown facility. Then we can continue to work with other groups who identify the needs they have for their organization.
How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?
I believe to improve this, we would want to look at how we can enhance the partnerships between all stakeholders who can impact cultural tourism in our community. Tourism Prince George, Multicultural and Heritage Society, the Prince George Exhibition, The Community Arts Council... The conversation needs to be open so we can work to creating consistent goals and messaging.
How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
By listening to the needs they bring forward case by case, and seeking ways to fund initiatives that are brought forward by groups or individuals.
What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?
We need to continue to work towards stronger community participation in our community cultural events. It is addressed by staying modern, not forgetting the roots, and bringing awareness to the entire community. Engage the community in taking part.
How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
I am regularly attending different events and businesses that are based around the arts in our community. I frequently participate in local theatre productions, and when I am not participating, I am attending. I work with different groups case by case, or event by event to offer my assistance if applicable. And through my employment I sponsor hundreds or different arts and cultural groups/organizations/events every year.

I believe, like other segments of our community, the Arts, Culture, and Heritage of a City is extremely important. You need a well rounded community that includes a wide range of services, groups, and ideology, and a council should reflect the entire makeup of that community. I am dedicated to being a strong voice of our Arts & Culture community in Prince George.
