Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
Yes, and I am in support of investing in the initiatives that would help to build a vibrant and diverse cultural community in our City.
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
Yes, each citizen in our City benefits from a community that is engaged with arts and culture - this also fits well with our robust approach to engaging youth in positive activities that keep them actively engaged with their time, instead of turning towards or being vulnerable to involvements in crime. It is also part of a balanced life, and a way to concretely promote good health, and the teaching of a balance in this respect to our youth as well so they may grow to view their life in our City as highly satisfying. The positive activities that encourage a sense of happiness for our citizens would benefit from support at the City level.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
Yes, for the points mentioned above. I am in full support of bolstering every child's ability to be successful, happy, secure, and resilient as they are raised in our City. These activities contribute to a child's sense of balance, their satisfaction with life, and develop their cognitive processes in ways that also impact other outcomes, such as engagement in and completion of post-secondary education. They develop ways of thinking and being that spill over into benefitting all parts of their life as they grow to become leaders in our City.
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
I support the fostering of programs in our community that contribute to the active engagement of youth. Council will look at its investment in cultural programs to see where there is a need for growth and invest accordingly to help provide our citizens with the benefits of a City with cultural programs that attract them.
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
Yes, a City as diverse as ours could only benefit from providing space for the development of arts and culture. Council would engage in due diligence in ensuring adequate process measures are in place to ensure access to appropriate spaces for the development of arts and culture in our City.
How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?
Providing support to arts and culture in our City would contribute to a robust cultural community with events and activities happening throughout our City. This would naturally be a draw for tourists to come to a City that is alive, engaging, and infused with vitality - making it attractive for tourists to come to our City.
How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
I support the creation of a cultural milieu in our community that is seen to be a robust arts and culture scene with events and activities in a City richly composed of diverse cultural groups. This would naturally be attracting to those in arts and culture.
What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?
The most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage would be the promotion of arts and culture from the vast diversity represented in our City, preserving the heritage in the arts of these communities. I would support the development of an arts and culture corridor for civic engagement.
How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
I support arts and culture wherever I am able to do so, attending events and supporting groups who are keeping the cultural life of our community alive.
