Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

I do not know exact figures. I absolutely will advocate for more support for the arts.

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

I am currently on the board of a local arts group and also produce a summer music series and am well aware of the potential for growth of arts in our area.

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

While I would not have input into educational content, more cultural events could ensure more opportunities for participation for youth.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

I will have to do more research to see what I would be able to do.

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

There is a great deal that can be done to improve cultural tourism. We have a good start with events such as a weekend-long Art Crawl that encompasses the entire Sunshine Coast (which I have been involved in organizing already for several years). We also have a jazz festival that draws talent from the many nationally and internationally-known artists residing here. I would like to see events such as these expand.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

We already pride ourselves on being a place artists can live and work in relative peace--I would like to ensure that continues by fighting increasing costs of living that are affecting communities all across BC- and attempting to cool down the rising costs of housing and transportation.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

I will be asking people what they think and how best to address it.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

I am a musician and fibre artist. I produce events in these areas and am on the board of the Coast Cultural Alliance and Sunshine Coast Art Crawl
