Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

Yes, Arts and Culture are the base to maintain a healthy, diverse and thriving financial local Economy.

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

Yes, I will keep an ongoing dialogue with the School District 47 and with support of the Youth Council meeting with Mayor and Councillors on a regular basis, we will continually build and grow our commitment to Arts and Culture within our School system and rest of the Community.

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

Encourage Delegations to the Committee of the Whole and Council Meetings on a regular basis to keep encouraging growth with all the tools we have available at our disposal in the Municipal Hall.

Cultural Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?

Communication is the key. Let's continue with dialogue with all interested groups and progress with each individual and Group in a positive and timely basis without delay.

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

Powell River Living Magazine / Powell River Peak Newspaper as well as community support of our local Radio Station in conjunction with contacts at the Provincial and Federal levels of Government.

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

We already have an amazing core of Artists and Cultural workers in our community. With the assistance of Social media and public interest in setting up Delegations to the Committee of the Whole and Council Meetings with their ideas, I as Mayor and our newly elected Council will look forward to all new ideas and initiatives.

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

Financial support is the most important issue as well as a liveable wage whilst engaged in the Arts and Culture Community. With dialogue between all levels of government I as Mayor with the assistance of Council will ensure solid results in sustaining our Arts, Culture and Heritage in the City of Powell River.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

I attend and support as many events in our community as possible within my parameter of Work and Leisure.

I am interested in bringing back The Powell River Sea Fair. It was(and I believe still is) an important part of our Community Identity. It used to be held in the month of July. So not to interfere with the Powell River Loggers Sports Events, I am entertaining the idea that the Powell River Sea Fair be held during the May (Victoria Day) Long Weekend.
