Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

Arts are already a critical component of every child’s education. However, a lot of it is funded by parents in the form of field trips and therefore varies based on the soci-economic status around the school. The key becomes leveling the playing field by advocating for more education dollars from the provincial government and maintaining the percentage spent on arts overall and specifically use the increase to assist those schools that need assistance in order to expose more students to an opportunity they would not get elsewhere. Another source of funding for Arts in education are community service groups who want to create future patrons of the Arts.

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

My involvement has been to attend a few shows at the ACT and a local church, and to support my children in Arts and Music programs and Musical Theater and dance productions.
