Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?
Yes I know and yes it can be increased and spread through some of the smaller communities more fairly.
If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?
I already do and yes I will continue to push the arts.
Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?
It is very important we include the youth of our communities. I think consultation to what they feel important is the first step. They are not interested in a bunch of old people creating something they will like!
How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?
A terrible thing happens if you don;'t promote. NOTHING! I have over 4 decades of experience in concert and marketing experience. You will not find anyone with better credentials. Now I just need some like minded individuals on my council,
Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?
We are doing pretty good for a city with only 20,000 residents but we can do better. Our recent city dedicated Pop Up Art Gallery is a good start. Blue Frog studios is one of the premier live venues in the Lower Mainland. ROCKITBOY Entertainment a major concert promoter in Western Canada is based in White Rock. I do contract work for the company in the area of press and publicity.
How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?
I would advocate we work closely with the Semiahmoo First Nations. We are the gateway to Canada and I see a big future for joint project to celebrate first nations arts and culture.
How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?
We have a lot already here. Now we just need to build upon efforts to give them a stage to excel. Field of dreams. If we build it they will come.
What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?
Lack of promotion. (see above) Cultural Growth
How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)
I volunteer as Master of Ceremonies for the aforementioned Blue Frog Studio. I am also very active in the promotion of all the arts gratis in my online newspaper The White Rock Sun www.whiterocksun.com
