Do you know how much your local government invests in the arts? Would you commit to advocating for an increase in that cultural investment for arts, culture, and heritage in your community, within the capacity of your elected body?

Yes if budgets allow an increase it’s a great place to invest.

If elected, will you take an active role on behalf of your local government in championing the growth of arts, culture and heritage in your community? Why?

Yes because it’s a positive healthy part of our society and contributes greatly to the well being and culture of our communities

Students with an education rich in the arts have better grade point averages and are three times more likely to get a degree. Will you commit to making the arts a critical component of every child’s education? If so, how?

I have advocated for arts and culture in our schools for the past 10 yrs as a school board trustee and will continue to do so if elected to city council

Cultural Growth

How will your local government maintain or grow its investment in cultural programs in your community?

I think partnering with various groups to increase cultural programming is key to increasing capacity and accessibility throughout the community

Cultural Spaces

Will you work to ensure access to affordable, sustainable cultural spaces for artists and arts organizations? If so, how?

I think ongoing dialogue between city and arts organizations is imperative to the relationship which benefits the entire community We have a very active arts council in our city which I have always supported and appreciated in my role as a school board trustee

Cultural Tourism

How do you propose to improve cultural tourism in your community?

Our area is known for its natural beauty landscapes which we need to protect for the enjoyment of generations to follow I will support infracstructure improvements that enhance, showcase and preserve our jewel

How do you propose to attract or retain artists and cultural workers in your community?

Once again I bring up the importance of partnerships and collaboration Positive programs and culture go a long way in attracting professionals to an area

Key Issues

What do you feel is the single most important issue relating to arts, culture, and heritage in your community, and what action will you take to address it?

I think that access is probably the one issue I hear the most. I think this concern can be addressed through the arts council partnerships with our community remainnng mindful of access for all members of the community No barriers to attending and participation is key to reaching as many as possible

How do you personally engage in the cultural life of the community? (e.g. involvement on committees, attending arts and culture events, etc.)

In my role as school board trustee for the past 10 yrs I have made it a priority to attend many events in our schools that showcase our students in all areas of arts and cultural events. It’s always a treat to see how proud the kids are of their accomplishments I intend to continue my support of arts and culture if elected to city council
